Namibia Wing Shooting

There are numerous species for game bird hunting in Namibia such as Namaqua Sandgrouse, Double-Banded Sand Grouse, Burchell Sand Grouse, Franklin Grouse, Laughing Dove, Cape Turtle Dove, and Helmeted Guineafowl. After enjoying a day of wing shooting, come back to camp for a delicious poultry dinner.

Namibia sandgrouse

Bird Hunting Sandgrouse

Burchell-Wolf Safaris is home to all three native Sandgrouse species: Burchell’s Sandgrouse, Namaqua Sandgrouse, and Double-Banded Sandgrouse. These fowl can be found in large flocks visiting the waterholes in the early morning and late evening, just as the sun is setting. Sandgrouse can also be hunted during the day with dogs. These fast-flying birds are some of the world’s finest sporting birds for hunting. Taking shots at these agile birds as they approach the water at high speed can be challenging, but even an average shot shouldn’t have a problem bringing birds back to camp.

Bird Hunting Doves

Two species of doves can be found at Burchell-Wolf Safaris, Cape Turtle Doves and the African Laughing Dove. While they are fast, it is their unpredictable flying pattern that makes them one of the most difficult African game birds to bag. Doves are hunted around waterholes in the early mornings, afternoon, and again in the evenings to provide clients with ample opportunities.

Delicious to eat and topped with a horn made of bone on their head, helmeted guineafowl are a unique trophy for all wing shooters. These birds can be found coming into the waterholes during the hottest time of the day but are the most fun wing shooting with dogs.

Bob Paro

★★★★★

“I know trying to decide on a place to go hunting in Africa can be difficult. Having hunted the Burchell’s Trudia farm in Northern Namibia, I can tell you that it is a great farm to hunt. The terrain has a rugged beauty with lots of great animals. 40 inch gemsbok, 50 inch kudu are all possible. The living arrangement is simple with tented chalets that remind one of days gone by with modern amenities. The Boma is the center of it all with great authentic African meals being served. Scot and Katie are gracious hosts who will instantly make you feel welcome and you will leave feeling like family. Everyone works to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Do not hesitate to book if you get the chance.”

“Hi, I’m Jeff Smith I’m from Hernando Mississippi. My first and second safaris were with Scot Burchell and his family. Hunting with them is the best experience I’ve ever had. Excellent accommodations, the food is great, and the friendliest staff you will ever meet. Their properties are huge and beautiful. The bird life in Namibia is something you just have to experience. Never a dull moment. We saw numerous trophy animals and their trophy care is second to none. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have people who care about your trophies as much as you do. You will arrive as a client and leave as lifetime friends. Thank you Scot for all my memories, I will cherish our friendship forever.”
