DANGEROUS GAME IN THE CAPRIVI

National park and conservancy map of the Caprivi Strip

The Caprivi Strip borders Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Angola, making it a haven for big game hunting. With a network of river systems made up from the Zambezi, Chobi, Quando, and Okavango rivers, the flood plains of the Caprivi create ideal habitat for Hippo, Crocodile, Elephant, and Cape Buffalo along with countless plains game such a Lechwe, waterbuck, and sitatunga.

Enjoy a true, wild, big game hunt with Burchell-Wolf Safaris in the Caprivi operating out of luxury tented camps along one of the four iconic river systems, listening to the calls of Africa as the hippos grunt, the lion’s roar, and the elephant’s trumpet. Hunt as Ruark did, in the untouched, magnificent Caprivi Strip of Namibia.

All big game hunting in the Caprivi is accompanied by Burchell-Wolf Safaris owner, Scot Burchell to ensure you the best safari experience.

Cape Buffalo

The Caprivi is home to a large quantity of great quality buffalo. Herds, often as large as one hundred plus, of Cape Buffalo can be seen feeding on the open flood plains. A Caprivi Buffalo hunt is often a spot and stalk hunt, making use of the river systems traveling by boat. Hunters claim Cape Buffalo hunting is one of the most exciting hunts and find themselves coming back to experience it again.

Elephant

Value for money, the Caprivi is one of the ideal options for Elephant hunting. Situated just North of the Okavango delta in Botswana, the elephant uses the Caprivi as a corridor when traveling between Botswana, Angola, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. A Caprivi Elephant hunt is an exhilarating hunt that will be one to remember.

Hippo

A hunt like none other in Africa. Travel by boat up and down the rivers to find a large bull hippo either basking on the bank or wallowing in the water. Hippo are extremely territorial animals known to defend their stretch of river landing the hippo in the dangerous game category. Thanks to the vast river systems, the Caprivi is home to a large number of hippo.

Crocodile

Referred to as “a leopard in water,” Crocodile hunting is extremely difficult. With fantastic eyesight, an impeccable sense of smell, and above average hearing, the Crocodile is an apex predator. While many crocodiles are hunted over bait, a Caprivi crocodile hunt with Burchell-Wolf Safaris is almost always a spot and stalk hunt. Shot placement on a Crocodile is most important with very little margin for error.

HUNTING RHINO – LION – AND LEOPARD IN NAMIBIA

Rhino

Unknown to many people, it is possible to hunt rhino in both Namibia and South Africa. With Namibia boasting the largest population of black rhino in the world; the white rhino is the more commonly hunted of the two species. Like a lot of the protected species in Namibia, strict rules and regulation are put in place to ensure ethical utilization is practiced. Most of the rhino hunted in Namibia are hunted on private ranches and consist of old mature males past their breeding prime, no longer contributing to the gene pool.

Lion

Namibia has a large population of lions with the majority of them inhabiting the Etosha national park, meaning the surrounding hunting areas and private ranches have a lot of these prides traveling through them in search of prey. This gives a great opportunity to hunt some of Africa’s best wild lions. The most common method of lion hunting is by bait and blind. Setting up a bait in an area where lion movement is common and waiting for a big mature male to take to the bait. Although lion hunting can take a lot of time and effort, your hard work will be well worth it when the opportunity of a mature male presents itself.

Leopard

Leopard hunting is challenging no matter where you hunt them and leopard hunting in Namibia is no different. With great numbers of leopards in their areas, Burchell-Wolf Safaris have had great success with their clients. In Namibia you can only hunt mature male leopards during daylight hours. With the challenging conditions it is very important to hunt at the optimal time of year. The winter months have been found to produce the best success for Burchell-Wolf Safaris and their clients with limited calves as prey this time of the year and foliage dropping off of the trees diminishing cover to stalk prey, leopards are more likely to take to bait.

Bob Paro

★★★★★

“I know trying to decide on a place to go hunting in Africa can be difficult. Having hunted the Burchell’s Trudia farm in Northern Namibia, I can tell you that it is a great farm to hunt. The terrain has a rugged beauty with lots of great animals. 40 inch gemsbok, 50 inch kudu are all possible. The living arrangement is simple with tented chalets that remind one of days gone by with modern amenities. The Boma is the center of it all with great authentic African meals being served. Scot and Katie are gracious hosts who will instantly make you feel welcome and you will leave feeling like family. Everyone works to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Do not hesitate to book if you get the chance.”

“Hi, I’m Jeff Smith I’m from Hernando Mississippi. My first and second safaris were with Scot Burchell and his family. Hunting with them is the best experience I’ve ever had. Excellent accommodations, the food is great, and the friendliest staff you will ever meet. Their properties are huge and beautiful. The bird life in Namibia is something you just have to experience. Never a dull moment. We saw numerous trophy animals and their trophy care is second to none. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have people who care about your trophies as much as you do. You will arrive as a client and leave as lifetime friends. Thank you Scot for all my memories, I will cherish our friendship forever.”
